This is what Bangaloreans have to Say |

Shashi Krishna from Caracas, Venezuela (currently in Bangalore) - If the question is if Bangalore is as prepared as Mumbai for a terrorist attack then the answer is a definite NO. History is witness that security has been a major concern in Bangalore for almost a decade now. The shoot out at the IISc in Bangalore last year is a clear indication that Bangalore is not at all ready for an emergency situation. Traffic accidents go unnoticed in this chaotic place then how can one possibly imagine officials acting swiftly in the event of a terror attack? I think we, the citizens, have to ensure that the governing officials are constantly reminded to try and forget about their political games for a minute and focus on improving the disaster recovery procedures in this growing monster of a city. My prayers and thoughts go out to the victims of this meaningless tragedy. I hope security for the fattening politicians are reduced a notch and instead the common man is thought of. Dewakar Basnet from Bangalore (currently in Mumbai) :I write this from Mumbai. Apparently the only city in this country which can rise from the phoenix of destruction as if nothing did happen. That as the cliche goes is the \"spirit of Bombay\". But I guess Bombay is paying the price of every diplomatic faux pass that Delhi makes. Totally unjust to a city which has nothing to do with anybody self itself. A city that does not have time to acknowledge one\'s courtesy. Coming down to Bangalore. The city too is going to be a whore for all the political fallacies that the centre commits. Somebody commits the blunder and someone has to pay the price. But unfortunately, for Bangalore, the city might not be able to show its spirit unlike Mumbai because of the very reason that we are much more people of the heart than the head, yet! We might not be able to come back to normalcy in 5 hours flat. We might not be able to line in hoardes for donating blood in hospitals and bloodbanks, ( not underlying the fact that Bangalorians are a helpful lot, but we would like to stay indoors for some time) our stock market might not be able to zoom 200 points plus a day after the strike et al. And the city is going to stop for a while. The stop would definitely be worth a million dollars. That\'s where the city might just crumble. That's what is more frightning as the city would drive away investors and itself could be cocooned with fear and terror for a mighty long time. Bangalore as a destination for these anti social elements is very much a possibility. Hopefully the concerned officials would take steps that would augur and instill confidence among Bangalorians by honestly attempting to keep these roaches at bay. The spirit of mumbai lies in its head...the spirit of Bangalore in its heart!!! Vignesh Upadhyaya
from Mysore - Keep the checkup continuosly in all the entry points
to the city. Keep watching all the suspected or who are already involved
in these criminal acts. Keep alert in the areas which seems to be
like slum or on the areas where terrors can hide. One more suggestion
is I have seen many telecom companies like airtel, hutch, reliance
etc., are giving the phone connections without verifying the address
or the person is genuine or not. Just for the sake of reaching the
targets the sales executives are creating fake addess proof and all
required documents. This happened to me in case of hutch and when
i called the customer care they mis-behaved with me. The government
or any NGO should monitor such activities and keep watching all the
phone calls which is suspected and which seems to be a strange. Also
the satellite phones ( i dont know much about it) should be continuously
monitored. Mohan from India writes " As an Indian, I believe that there is no need to be scared! There is a difference between being prepared and scared!! Let our security forces do their job and simply by spreading the messages like \"Is Bangaloru next?\" doesnt make much sense. By these messages to whom are we sending messages? To our Politicians? or to our Software companies? or to our Security forces? or to the gullible General public? - who cant do much by the way in case of a real threat. They cannot avoid going to their works or using public commute system to reach there! and cannot avoid going to market to get groceries even though they want to be prepared? So Pl. suggest if possible spread message of what a General public should do in case they face an untoward incidents like terrorist threat in our beloved Bengaluru!! Living scared in your own house is not worth living!! Jaiprasad K from Bangalore currently in London - Bangalore will be safe becoz that is how it can be Purvi Jaishankar from Cincinnati USA - Yes. I agree that every city would have the fear if their city might also become a target. And naturally we should be alert for any such danger. While one cannot say if Bangalore can handle the same way Mumbai did...normalcy was restored with defiant speed although it has left deeper scars not just on Mumbaiites but on every Indian. Whether Bangalore could be the next target or not, the city should always be prepared for any danger be it man made or natural causes. I very much doubt if Bangalore is well planned and well equipped to meet any such catastrope. As citizens we should be very cautious of what is going on around us, be it in the bus or a cinema theatre or a place of worship. Be alert of what other people are carrying and immediately inform the authorities if anything suspicious is left behind. The Government should take necessary steps to protect our monuments such as Vidhana Soudha and everyone who goes inside should be properly screened and checked. This should be done continuously and not for a couple of days just after any attack. While the media could hype and exaggerate these issues, it is true that every citizen would have fear when such a thing happens. God save our Country and our Land. Kiran from bengalooru
- If we throw out all the non-kannadiga\'s from Bengalooru our city
can be made safer. Throwing Kongas, Mallus, andhrites, bihaaris, bengalis,
marathis, gujjus, rajasthanis, UP's, panjabis, assamese, etc. My suggestion is if our city is free from non-kannadigaas Bengalooru will be safe and also Kannadigas will also be safe... Kechhedeya kannadiga.... Sunil Baindur from Bangalore - Yes ! Bangalore is a hot target ! Being the I.T hub,by
blasting a few places , the LET or who ever is responsible will get
better media coverage. These guys are sadistic people, it actually
really doesnot matter to them. Sorry if i have offended anyone....but it the truth based on facts! ktripper from
Kannadatorrents.com - Will it be next? Yes and no. Here's why... Prevention? That
would be great but rarely does it happen. How? (not an easy task)
This is undoubtedly a BIG topic!!! 1. First and foremost,
learn from mistakes (read as, unfortunate barbaric tragedies/events)
within our nation. Then, go beyond. Seek help (be it technological
or whatever) from other nations. Just learn from other nations already
in the dealing with terrorism. Just my two Re./paise (if paisa still has any value). Srinivasa Murthy from Mangalore - I dont agree with one of the comments above (Mr. Mohan from India) that we should not feel scared in our own country. If there are a spate of burglaries in our locality, would we not be scared in our own house and take all precautions to avoid our house being burgled ? Can you not think about it or take action because it is not "worth living" ?I think it is ridiculous. It is the media which brings these awareness to us and by being cautious, that does not mean that the media is scaring people. I was reading a writeup today in Deccan Herald that our Railway Stations are very vulnerable to attacks because of lack of security systems there. All that this station offers in terms of security are the dog squads quick checks in the trains, the CCTV cameras and the stray constable. Yesterday the Deccan Herald reporter with a photographer were in the station for nearly 3 hours without any security interception. He goes on to pinpoint that only Two RPF constables are posted at the entrance, but are clearly outnumbered by the teeming passengers and visitors. The Intelligence Bureau lists the Bangalore City among potential terror targets as per the report. Unless the media tells us these flaws and drawbacks in the Security system how would we know which place is safe and what steps can we take to prevent or be on guard. Of course these are scary and how can one live without getting scared of these happenings around us. Of course I agree with the suggestion that the Government should spread messages to the General Public as to what they should do in case of a catastrophe like this.
