DiscoverBangalore is pleased to to bring our next unbiased review on our series of Reviews on Bangalore Restaurants. Our freelance writer U B Githa recently visited Veena Stores , a Small but very popular Vegetarian Restaurant in Bangalore.

Veena Stores
On Margosa Road, Malleshwaram, Bangalore

What started as a condiment store in 1977 has morphed into a popular eatery much sought after for its soft melting in the mouth idlis served with only chutney (5/=)in unlimited quantities, huge crisp vadas, spicy shevigae bath, uppit and kesari bath (sweetened uppittu). Kesari Bath, though very tasty had an overdose of ghee accounting for the rich taste. Unfortunately today we do not exercise leading a sedentary lifestyle and any extra helping or overdose of unsaturated medium gives the jitters. But still have all of this without forgetting to lick the fingers and you will not be poorer by even 30/-.Downing the above with a small serving of coffee/tea or badam(almond) milk one goes home feeling heavenly. This unassuming address is on a one way zone, so we ate on the pedestrian path who didn't grudge this encroachment. The clientele slowly increased in numbers around 5pm as the fresh aromas enticed them for a stop over before proceeding home.

The dough was being freshly ground and the chutney was warm to touch as mixies are not made use of. Ground in stone rollers the taste is superb. This brought to mind a recent experience in one of the five star hotels where having paid through my nose I had to contend with a tiny black stone in the pilav giving me the jitters of fixing an appointment at the dentists. Here I could unpretentiously see the standards of hygiene.

S.Pradeep, the second generation is a diploma holder in electrical engineering but the calling of taking over from his father's business was irresistible and he was seen enjoying serving helpings to his customers. Open from 6am -11am and 3.30-8 pm-it's also a haunt for the joggers and office crowd.
